I spent a lot of my life working in a tarmac gang. I used a whacker plate to flatten the tarmac. Using the whacker plate meant that my arms and my whole body vibrated when I was using it.
A few years ago I noticed that my fingers became white and I had pain. I found it very difficult to be in the cold without wearing gloves.
I worked for quite a few companies using whacker plates and other vibrating equipment over the years. I contacted Leo Abse & Cohen and they managed to locate all of the employers that I worked for or their insurers. They then sent me for a medical examination which confirmed that I had Hand/Arm Vibration Syndrome/Vibration White Finger.
They successfully pursued a claim on my behalf and I received £8,000 for the injury and a significant sum to compensate me for the fact that I was not able to use vibrating equipment in the future. |
