Asbestosis Claims

If you have been exposed to asbestos, either through your work or in any other way, then you will be eligible to make a claim for compensation if you have been informed that you have an asbestos related condition.  There are a number of conditions that can be caused by exposure to asbestos dust.  It is not widely known but asbestos was used in a huge variety of products over a very long period of time.  There are a number of occupations in which people have become exposed to asbestos dust, such as asbestos laggers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, dock workers, mechanics working with asbestos brake linings, pipe fitters, people who worked in Power Stations and factories and people who worked in boiler rooms.  There are a large number of people who have been potentially exposed to asbestos dust and fibre.

If you have been exposed to asbestos then you ought to take advice about making a claim for compensation.  You need the help of an experienced Personal Injury Lawyer.  We at Leo Abse and Cohen have vast experience of acting for those who have suffered injury as a result of being exposed to asbestos dust and fibre.

Conditions

(a)  Mesothelioma - this is a cancer which affects either the lining of the lung, known as the pleura, or the peritoneum.  It is a very rare cancer which, as is accepted by the medical profession, is only caused by asbestos exposure.  Therefore, if you or a family member has been diagnosed or has sadly passed away as a result of mesothelioma there can be no doubt that at some stage they were exposed to asbestos dust and fibre.

(b)  Asbestosis - this is a condition which causes pulmonary fibrosis and affects the functioning of the lung.  It is caused by significant exposure to asbestos dust and fibre usually over a number of years.  It is a condition in which symptoms can range from relatively mild symptoms of breathlessness to very severe conditions.  It is usually progressive in its nature.  If you have been diagnosed as suffering from asbestosis then there is no doubt that you are eligible to make a claim for compensation or if you have been informed that you have breathing difficulties and you know that you have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre you ought to take legal advice as often the diagnosis of asbestosis is not clear cut.

(c)  Pleural Thickening - the lining of the lung is known as the pleura.  If you have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre it can lead to a thickening of the lining of the lung which causes breathing difficulties.  If you have been diagnosed as suffering from pleural thickening then you would be eligible for compensation if we can establish that you were exposed to asbestos dust and fibre.

(d)  Lung Cancer - this is a condition which can arise as a result of exposure to asbestos dust and fibre.  As everybody knows, lung cancer is a condition which can arise naturally without any exposure to asbestos dust and fibre at all.  However, there is an accepted link between exposure to asbestos and the development of lung cancer in a variety of occupations and circumstances.  If you have been diagnosed with lung cancer and have been exposed to asbestos or, sadly, a family member has passed away as a result of lung cancer where there is a known history of asbestos exposure then you ought to obtain specialist advice from staff at Leo Abse and Cohen.
