Road traffic accident compensation to be speeded up

Concerned with the amount of time that some people have to wait in order to receive compensation payments, the government have announced new measures. These measures have been put in place in an attempt to speed up the amount of time that it takes for road traffic accident victims to receive compensation. After discussion in parliament, plans for a fast-track system have been put in motion.

New proposals call for the establishment of fixed stages and costs for claimants, as well as solicitors acting on behalf of defendants. The proposal hopes to target smaller claims, valued between £1,000 - £10,000.

Bridget Prentice, who is the current minister of justice, made reference to the fact that those under the stress of being injured do not need further botheration brought to them by having to wait indefinitely for compensation: “This scheme will mean that everyone knows in advance what the costs will be, and it will be simpler and quicker to complete a claim."

These plans are the result of ongoing work by the Ministry of Justice, one of the biggest government departments both in terms of employees, and budget. It is hoped that the legislation will be put in place with as little delay as possible, thus eliminating the waiting game that so many claimants are forced to partake in.
