Aaron Clarke has made a formal complaint to his local authority, after a sizeable pothole caused him to be upended from his motorcycle. After falling from his motorcycle, 27 year old Clark painfully skidded across the road a number of yards, before eventually coming to a stop.
In reference to the harrowing incident, Mr Clark said “It was terrifying, and all I can remember is hearing the squeal of brakes, but luckily the cars managed to stop before hitting me." Speaking of the dangers inherent with badly kept highways, Clark pointed out that whilst all road users are put at risk by potholes, they can be fatal for those travelling on motorcycles.
Once over the immense shock of the incident, Clark garnered the courage to return to the scene of the accident. He was appalled to find the road in such a state of disrepair, claiming that the road was actually “crumbling away”.
Essex County Council did eventually respond to Mr Clark's complaint, stating that £500,000 had recently been made available, in order for the council to repair the damage to the highways within its jurisdiction. A council spokesperson cited bad weather conditions as the primary reason for potholes.
